9.95m creeling in North West

'Spindrift Three’ is the latest Cheetah to arrive on the west coast of Scotland. The 9.95m Cheetah in the standard golden yellow will be creeling for prawns up to 30 miles from its home port at Kyle.

Skipper Duncan Mackerlich rates the all round performance as excellent.
'I chose the Cheetah for its tremendous stability, economy and speed I certainly have not been disappointed’. ‘We get down to Loch Nevis – a trip of 30 miles in about an hour. All round fuel consumption for the boat is below two litres of fuel per mile and we have a cruising speed when full of creels of 19 knots at 3600 revs and a top speed of 30 knots
'

Spindrift has the new Cheetah wide wheelhouse and a 25hp Kubota diesel hydraulic power pack to drive a Spencer Carter P bracket hauler. With a beam of 3.6m, deck space is considerable and Duncan is able to move many fleets at a time.

Spindrift will only draw around 40cm enabling Duncan to work in shallow areas of the Sound of Sleat. The vessel is built to SeaFish construction standards as all Cheetah Commercial Catamarans are. All the stainless steelwork, designed for working with creels was designed and built in the Cheetah yard.
'With fuel prices escalating it is essential for us to build very economical craft. We are able to do this by using high tech materials and up to date technology wherever possible. The result is a very strong, stable vessel which is able to earn money throughout the year.'
